Wellstone Action is pleased to announce that we have been selected as one of a cohort of rigorously vetted progressive organizations to take part in a new venture in political giving. The New Progressive Coalition (NPC) today launched three political "mutual funds", designed to give donors an opportunity to invest in organizations working at the top of their field and producing demonstrable results in winning progressive victories.
From a pool of 137 organizations, NPC analyzed each group's Political Return on Investment, or, in other words, how great your impact is relative to the money it costs you to do it. While this entrepreneurial outlook is standard in the corporate world, progressive "investors" all too often have been pouring money into new, untested startups that come and go with election cycles, or continue giving to the groups who have been long in the fight but do not demonstrate measurable success.
Wellstone Action is one of 18 organizations in the "Victory in 2008 and beyond" mutual fund, based on the analysis by NPC that shows both our reach and impact in the progressive movement to be very strong. To read NPC's analysis of Wellstone Action, click here (site registration required).
This rigorous process has not only opened new avenues for revenue generation, but also allows Wellstone Action to demonstrate that we stand apart in the area of progressive leadership development and have a proven track record of delivering success. In the past four years, Wellstone Action has trained over 15,000 organizers and candidates, developed seven unique training programs that reach audiences from college students to organized labor to Indian Country, and amassed a tremendous trainer network and curriculum catalog. It is exciting to receive validation from NPC on something that 15,000 alumni across the country already know - that Wellstone Action works!
