We spent a whole week with the organizers, leaders, and front-line activists of the Power Vote campaign training them on the skills needed to successfully fight for a clean energy future on their campuses and in their communities.
Last year, I was honored to accept the Distinguished Minnesotan Award given posthumomously to Paul and Sheila Wellstone at the Bemidji State University Commencement. As graduation time rolls around again, here are some thoughts on engaging in politics and public life.
Campus Camp Wellstone trains students nationwide on how to run energized, community building, winning campaigns. We focus on campus and community organizing and young voter engagement.
Chris Brazelton participated in several other training groups similar to Camp Wellstone prior to campaigning for Minnesota's State House of Representatives district 19B in Wright County. For her, Camp Wellstone focused on "framing the message" for running a successful campaign. Chris
Campaign Corps trains recent progressive-minded college
graduates in a week-long Campaign
School, and then puts
them to work on the last three months of a targeted Democratic campaign.
Campus Progressgives a voice to motivated individuals nationwide whom wish to
become progressive leaders and connect with other progressives to from strong
movements for the future.
Campus Camp Wellstone Director Mattie Weiss gives young people the
scoop on what to tell political campaigns when they come asking for our
dollars, hours, connections, and cache.
At Camp Wellstone for High School Students in St. Paul, Minnesota students reflected on their training experience by contributing to a memory book. These are their drawings, stories, and ideas.
As progressives, we know we can find better leaders. We are looking for
leaders who can restore hope, empower citizens, and be effective voices
for change.
